What is Pomade?

When it comes to pomades, there are two types. You can get a petroleum based pomade, or a water based pomade. From our experience, a petroleum based pomade will give you a slightly stiffer and stronger hold. However, it doesn’t wash out of the hair easily. Therefore, most users of petroleum based pomade will have a slicked back or pompadour style of hair on a day to day basis. Therefore, if you like to change your hair style depending on the day, a water based pomade is for you. This will allow you to easily wash it out when you go for a shower. Generally speaking, petroleum based pomade is more effective as a styling product, it just has a lot of downsides. We personally find it a bit too thick and unmanageable. It generally leaves our hair feeling very greasy, and it just doesn’t feel like it is healthy on the hair. I would imagine it doesn’t leave much room for the scalp to breathe. However, some people like to go old school and stick with the original, which is the petroleum based pomade. We recently did an article on a pomade by Cock Grease (read here), which is a fantastic water based pomade, which we highly recommend. It has a great strong hold, without the annoying downsides that the petroleum pomade will give you. The difference between...

Water Soluble Cock Grease Hair Pomade Review

I have incredibly thick hair. Which means that any slick hair hair styles are near to impossible. However, my hairdresser recommended the Cock Grease line of pomade. Now…I’ve used pomade before, and while it is quite effective, it is a pain in the backside and always left my hair feeling incredibly greasy and just dirty. The added fact is, it doesn’t come out after a basic wash of the hair. So, as I said, my hairdresser passed me onto a company called “Cock Grease”. I know, weird name. I gave it a try, and this product has seriously revolutionised pomade for me. I wouldn’t describe it as similar to most pomades in consistency. It is more like a gel-wax hybrid. How I use Cock Grease Pomade Normally what I will do is towel dry my hair. Once that is done, I will take a small fingertip sized amount, and work it into my hands. Then, I’ll put it into my hair all over, front to back. Making sure I get it into the roots. Then simply push my hair back by running my fingers through my hair. If I want a really solid almost “frozen” slicked back look. I’ll wait for the hair to dry a little naturally. Then, I’ll get another bit and add more to really solidify the hair. Cock Grease Water Soluble Pomade is really pliable...

The Best Mens Hairdresser in Edinburgh

There is currently a rather large collection of Mens Hairdressers located in Edinburgh, and therefore it is a little difficult to categorise them into the best and worst. However, what we have done is scoured the internet, looking at reviews of Mens Hairdressers in Edinburgh, which will allow us to figure out which are the most popular and highly rated Mens Barbers in Edinburgh. Obviously there are various factors when it comes to choosing where you would like to get your hair cut. Most likely your decision will come down to the likelihood of a good haircut (main factor), as well as how much you are willing to spend. From experience, we have learnt that the price you pay for a haircut doesn’t necessarily dictate how good it could be. However, generally cheaper hairdressers are not quite as well trained. You also get more perks when paying a little more. Such as head massages (highly recommended!) Luckily, as men, we don’t have to pay as much when we take a visit to the barber as women do. On average, in Edinburgh, for a “good” and “highly rated” hairdresser or barber, you’re likely looking at the £25-£35 price range. However, there are plenty of low budget hairdressers in the Edinburgh area. Admittedly, they do tend to receive lower ratings than the more expensive ones. We have found the perfect mens...
